We launched Kapuluan Coconut to help coconut farmers in the Philippines.

Our One for One Tree Planting initiative was at the core of our business model because of the devastation to coconut palm trees in the Philippines following Typhoon Haiyan and Typhoon Hagupit; we wanted to help the coconut farming communities recover, while assisting in sustainable crop production.

We didn’t come from a product development, cosmetics, or logistics background. We started out with a small amount of our own money to get Kapuluan off the ground, and there were so many moving parts in getting started that it took a year before we could even launch our business. We just wanted to help coconut farmers, and at times, we’ve wondered what we got ourselves into.

But we’ve grown. We’ve learned. And we’ve developed our business.

Through research, we understood the impact we could have on the planet, because trees help to reduce carbon, which is one of the primary culprits in global warming.

We also believe in the power of all natural products and simple ingredients. We made it our ethos to care about health and wellness, quality products, the environment, animals, and people. The benefits of coconut oil fit perfectly.

One of the things we’ve learned about are the challenges and requirements of logistics and working with retailers, distributors, and our own e-commerce platform. Something we weren’t able to get around as we began building our business, was the use of plastic polybags, and shipping materials which were not the most environmentally friendly. If you’ve ever received one of our products in a plastic bag, bubble wrap, or in a box with styrofoam, it was because we need to protect the product during transportation, or because we were required to do so.

But we’ve been working on a better solution.

For the past few months, we’ve started using recycled paper and eco-friendly shipping products. Soon, we’ll be introducing recycled paper boxes for our products.

While using paper still isn’t the model ideal situation ever, it is much better than using plastic, and it is easier to recycle.

So, we’re really excited to be launching our new packaging in the next month.

Kapuluan Coconut is determined to continually find ways to reduce our environmental impact on the planet, while making the finest quality, organic coconut oil products.

Thank you for your support as we continue to learn, grow, and improve 🙂
